Root Canal Aftercare: What to Do After Treatment

Root Canal Aftercare Guide

After root canal treatment, your tooth and the surrounding area may feel sensitive for a few days. This is completely normal and should gradually improve.

Immediately After Treatment

  • Avoid eating or drinking until the anaesthetic has worn off completely.
  • Do not bite or chew on the treated tooth until your permanent restoration is placed.
  • Take prescribed painkillers as directed if you experience discomfort.

Oral Hygiene After Root Canal

Continue brushing and flossing normally, but be gentle around the treated area. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and avoid excessive pressure near the treated tooth.

When to Call Your Dentist

  • Severe or worsening pain that is not relieved by medication
  • Visible swelling or an allergic reaction
